Massive World: Location-Based AR Retail Gaming Platform

Frame Sixty designed the UI/UX for Super Massive, an AR game turning Tokyo into a digital playground. Players explore the city, collect virtual coins, and unlock AR experiences that offer exclusive deals at local stores.

Introduction

Frame Sixty engineered the comprehensive UI/UX ecosystem for Super Massive, a Pokémon-inspired AR mobile game that transforms Tokyo into a live digital playground. By blending gamification with location-based services, the platform turns city exploration into real-world commerce. Players track the map, collect virtual coins, and unlock immersive AR experiences that translate into exclusive deals at participating physical retail stores.

Challenge

Navigating the post-digital retail landscape requires creative strategies to drive physical foot traffic and engage consumers. Traditional loyalty programs, standard mobile apps, and flat digital advertisements often struggle to capture the attention of a modern, tech-savvy audience.

  1. Declining Retail Foot Traffic. Brick-and-mortar storefronts struggle to attract shoppers who heavily rely on e-commerce.
  2. Low Engagement with Traditional Ads. Conventional marketing campaigns fail to build memorable connections with younger demographics.
  3. Lack of Physical-Digital Integration. Retailers lack intuitive tools to bridge digital marketing efforts with physical retail locations.
  4. Monotonous Urban Navigation. Standard maps and navigation tools focus purely on utility, missing opportunities to turn city exploration into an engaging experience.

What we did

We engineered a secure, scalable, and highly interactive mixed-reality spatial application designed for city-scale exploration and seamless retail integration.

Immersive Spatial Layer

Built a responsive, stylized 3D map over Tokyo's real-world landscape for city-scale exploration.

Hover Bike Locomotion

Integrated a dynamic "Hover Bike Mode" with on-screen joystick controls for high-speed urban transit.

Smart Retail Check-ins

Mapped location-aware partner points (e.g., Starbucks) that unlock exclusive mini-games and milestones upon entry.

Rewards screen with NFT, Merch and Video Chat reward tiles and Buy Now buttons

Gamified Economy & Rewards

Implemented virtual coin collection paired with real-time discounts redeemable at partner retail registers.

In-app marketplace listing New Outfits and a 5000 Coins Bundle, each marked Coming Soon

In-App Marketplace

Developed a virtual store for users to spend collected coins on premium character skins and loot bundles.

Leaderboard screen with a 3,000,765 coin total, the top three players and a ranked list

Social & Community Hub

Integrated live leaderboards, daily missions, localized chats, and content streams from local lifestyle influencers.

Conclusion

This Tokyo-based spatial commerce platform demonstrates how gamified exploration can directly bridge the gap between digital interactions and brick-and-mortar retail environments. By turning urban navigation into an entertaining creature-collection journey, the application creates a highly repeatable ecosystem that incentivizes users to visit physical stores.

Ultimately, this project highlights the future of interactive city experiences—transforming routine retail marketing into high-value consumer engagement and proving that next-generation spatial computing can drive measurable commercial impact.
