Bringing Crypt TV’s Iconic Monsters to Life with Meta AR

Introduction

Platforms:
Meta (Facebook / Instagram AR)
Technologies:
Spark AR Studio, Real-time Face Tracking, Custom 3D Shaders, PBR Texturing

Leveraging advanced face-tracking capabilities on Meta platforms, we developed custom augmented reality (AR) face masks for Crypt TV to digitally transform fans into their most iconic horror characters, including Giggles the Clown and Sonny from the Sunny Family Cult.

Challenge

Crypt TV, a digital horror powerhouse backed by Eli Roth and Blumhouse, wanted to expand the reach of its native social media characters—specifically Giggles the Clown and Sonny—beyond standard video content. The goal was to bridge the gap between passive viewing and interactive fandom. The execution required creating a chilling, highly accurate AR experience that could scale across billions of mobile devices without losing the raw, cinematic horror aesthetic that defines the Crypt TV monster universe.

Fog-shrouded Victorian house at night with a bare tree and a few lit windows
Man in a dark farmhouse hallway wearing a featureless tan mask with smudged black eyes and a creased mouth
Woman with long black hair in a candlelit room wearing a black lower-face mask with a jagged, fanged grin
Crypt TV AR mask in the face-mask editor: a fanged red-and-black lower-face mask on a wireframe head and a live preview of a blonde woman wearing it

Solution

Frame Sixty engineered two signature, hyper-realistic AR masks using Meta’s cutting-edge spatial tracking capabilities.

Giggles the Clown AR Mask

Visual Fidelity

Meticulously translated Giggles’ iconic, disfigured grin and chaotic aesthetic from cinematic makeup to a lightweight 3D digital overlay.

Real-Time Integration

Leveraged advanced facial-mesh technology to ensure the mask deformed naturally with user expressions (smiling, blinking, talking) during live streams and recordings.

“Sonny” (Sunny Family Cult) AR Mask

Atmospheric Horror

Developed a second custom filter inspired by the popular Sunny Family Cult series.

Distortion & Lighting

Utilized dynamic shadow maps and skin-stretching effects to bring a gritty, unsettling realism straight to the user’s front-facing camera.
